Walking with Ignatius, from Spain to Italy!

I have done several Caminos (Saint James and Ignatian) and retreats and I would say that this is the best I have done so far. Everything about this pilgrimage was beautiful and perfect. My fellow pilgrims – with all our quirks, habits, cultures and background, united in our struggles with St Ignatius as we search for God.

But after a tough hike through the Alps in 2022, where the altitude and steep slopes quickly and repeatedly depleted my energy reserves despite my efforts to replenish my strength, I decided my days of long walks were over.

Learning from God: live the present moment

I knew I needed a spiritual retreat. I had been running my business for the last ten years without one, so my soul was yearning for it. The Santiago Camino had been on my “bucket list” and I always thought I would do it when I ended my career to help me figure out what to do in my retirement years. While planning my Santiago Camino, the Lord stepped in and redirected me to go on the Ignatian Camino instead. And I am so glad He did.

From Australia: a pilgrim’s journey!

A few years ago, while on a bus tour of Spain, I had the opportunity of a four hour visit to Montserrat, the “serrated mountain” and home to Our lady of Montserrat, the Black Madonna, about an hour’s drive from Barcelona.   I was so touched by the spirit of this place I remember commenting that I would love to return for a visit and, if possible, even spend some retreat time there… Some six years later…
