Step 6: Genevilla – Laguardia (27 km approx.)

Genevilla: Km 0. Cabredo: Km 2.5. Lapoblación: Km 8.7. Kripan: Km 15.5. Laguardia: Km 27.

We get up, knowing that we are getting near the end of the hardest stages of our Ignatian Way. We leave Genevilla in the direction of Cabredo mountain pass. We take a dirt road that goes straight to Cabredo and runs parallel to the paved carriageway. From the main square, past the church, we turn right and then left to go down a well defined dirt road. Be careful, because our road begins after only 50 m on the left and is not as broad and well defined as the other one. We continue straight on this road until we reach Cabredo.

We go straight through the village and just at the last houses, on reaching the road that would lead us to Marañón, we take a dirt road that goes off to the left . At this point is very important NOT to follow the GR red and white markings and head on the road to the left towards the entrance of a house right where it says wrong direction for GR (red-white cross). The path coming out to the left of the house has no trees and the mark on the ground are clear, they leave no doubt, and climbs up 1 km to the NA-7200 road. We join the NA-7200 just at the mountain pass of Cabredo. Ahead of us some windmills are waiting to greet us.

We follow the road and at the fork, we take the paved road on the right, the NA-7211, which leads directly to the village of Lapoblación. We go through the village following the paved road and continue straight on downhill. After 600 m we take a dirt road going off to our right, which leads us to the village of Meano. We do not enter the village, but at the first fork, we keep right to skirt it from above.

The dirt road is well defined and we continue straight ahead, climbing slightly and moving away from the town. We pass an old quarry on our right. Straight on, zigzagging (Z). We reach a crossroads, in front of some ploughed fields. We continue in a straight line to find a way that is not very well defined and which borders the field. At 700 m we reach a sharp curve to the left. In the same curve a path goes upwards, but we continue down our path. Ahead we find a signpost. We continue to Kripan.

Straight on until we reach some fields and the paved road A-3220, which we take to our right. At the fork, we go right and right again at the next fork, to avoid the village of Kripan, which we skirt following along the paved road A-3228. At 2.5 km from this point, we take a paved road that goes off to our right almost at a right angle. By taking this detour, we avoid the village of Elvillar. After 400 m we cross another road and go straight on. After two bends, we arrive at a crossroads. We take the left. Another crossroads and we take the right this time. At a fork in the road, we keep left. We continue straight on to another fork and take a right. A dirt road appears on our right, but we do not take it and go straight on. Two more bends and another crossroads. We continue straight ahead on the same road until we reach the town of Laguardia, the end of this stage.
